New Delhi:

Director Karan Johar, in the latest episode of Koffee With Karan 7, claims that actor Aamir Khan is responsible for the tonality being lost in the Hindi cinema that South Cinema offers. Speaking to Aamir, the director of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil said: “There has been so much success that some of the South Industry films have given us in terms of Baahubali, RRR, KGF and Pushpa and some of our films that have not worked . Is there a change in our films lately in terms of KGF or Pushpa having a tonality that Hindi cinema used to have. We actually let them go and you are responsible for that.

Explaining the reason why he feels Aamir is responsible for all this, Karan said: “In 2001 you came with two films Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan, both had new sensibilities, both had new syntax in cinema, then you came after that in 2006 with a film Rang De Basanti, then right after that you did Taare Zameen Par, with the result that you started to reach a certain audience and filmmakers.”

Aamir then dismissed all claims and said, “No, you are wrong. These were all heartland films. These films had emotions. You reach the common man. It’s something you’ll bond with emotionally. Rang De Basanti is very emotional film. He touches the people at the grass roots.”

Aamir continued: “I’m not saying you make action films or raw films. Makes good films with great stories, but chooses topics that are relevant to most people. Every filmmaker is free to do whatever they want most of India isn’t really interested… There are niche people who are interested which most of us don’t realize. I think that’s the difference.

South Indian films have thrived around the world in recent years. But big Bollywood films like Prithviraj, Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera and Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar failed to bring audiences to theaters.

Apart from that, the fifth episode of Karan’s chat show ended very happily as the Sarfarosh actor won the rapid-fire round with 73% votes from the live audience and Kareena won the rapid-buzzer round with a majority of 15 points in her kitty.

Meanwhile, Aamir is talking about the work front and is currently busy promoting his upcoming family entertainer film Laal Singh Chadha which is slated to hit theaters on August 11, 2022. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh.

Laal Singh Chadha is set for a big box office hit with Akshay Kumar’s next film Raksha Bandhan.
