Kourtney Kardashian revealed that her attempts to conceive and have her first child with fiancé Travis Barker have been difficult both mentally and physically.
“It’s a beautiful thing that we’d like to have, but the journey is a little bit tough for any woman who’s embarked on it,” she told Entertainment Tonight of her fertility struggles.
Last month, a leaked trailer for the family’s new reality series, The Kardashians, showed the 42-year-old reality star potentially pregnant with Barker as the couple sought medical help.

Kourtney also said last month that IVF drugs “put her into menopause,” which caused her to gain weight due to fluctuating estrogen levels.
Menopause is a natural part of aging that usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 when a woman’s estrogen levels decrease. Research on whether in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment can induce menopause is sparse and not yet cemented.

Kourtney also shared her irritation at the “rude” comments she’d recently received about her weight gain, which she says was also prompted by her IVF medications.

Usually used by women or couples who are having trouble conceiving naturally, IVF involves the removal of eggs from the ovaries, which are then fertilized with sperm in a laboratory before being transferred to the uterus.

Fertility drugs are known to cause symptoms very similar to those experienced during menopause, including hot flashes, weight gain, mood swings, and bloating.
At one point during Khloe’s failed relationship with Tristan Thompson, they had planned to have another child and were going through an embryo recovery process in hopes of having another sibling for True.
At the time, she explained the risks of pregnancy and said she was also warned by her doctor that there was an 80 percent chance of miscarriage if she attempted to carry embryos to term, prompting a debate about surrogacy.
