Ukraine’s cybersecurity services have neutralized more than 4,500 Russian cyberattacks on their country since the beginning of the year, an indicted official noted on Monday.

In an interview with the My-Ukraine TV channel, Ilya Vitiuk, head of the cybersecurity department at the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), said “the aggressor country launches more than ten cyberattacks a day on average. Fortunately, most of them are not even aware of Ukrainian society.”
“We entered 2022 with eight years of experience in hybrid warfare,” he added. “By the time of the invasion, we were already prepared for the worst-case scenarios.”
According to him, in 2020 almost 800 cyber attacks were registered, in 2021 more than 1400 and in 2022 this number tripled.
“Massive cyberattacks were repelled in January and February, allowing us additional training ahead of the Russian invasion,” Vitiuk continued at the end of February.
According to him, Moscow is particularly targeting the energy sector, logistics, military facilities, as well as state databases and information resources.
“We monitor risks and threats in real time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” he said. “We know most of the hackers from the Russian secret services working against us by name. After Ukraine’s victory, they must appear before an international military tribunal.”
