Kyiv: More than 500 cities still without electricity

In Ukraine, after the Russian attacks on the power grid, 500 cities are still without electricity. “Currently, 507 cities in eight regions of our country are without electricity supply,” Deputy Interior Minister Yevgeny Jenin told Ukrainian TV. “The enemy continues to attack the country’s vital infrastructure.”

The Kharkiv region with 112 villages cut off from the outside world is the hardest hit, Jenin said. Another 90 villages were affected in Donetsk and Kherson regions, in Mykolayiv 82 villages were left without electricity, in Zaporizhia region 76 and in Luhansk region 43.

slogans issued to persevere

Yesterday, the Ukrainian authorities, including the governor of the Mykolaiv region, Vitaly Kim, again appealed to the population to resist in the face of winter temperatures and regular power cuts. Millions of people in Ukraine have been left without heat and electricity several times a day in recent days, while the outside temperature has been below freezing for days.

The prospect of further Russian attacks on the Ukrainian power grid raises fears of a very severe winter that is likely to drive many more people to flee.
