The F-16 fighters “will be able to detect Russian planes at long range and allow Ukrainian pilots to stay out of range of Russian frontline air defenses,” writes the Atlantic Council, citing Ukrainian news agency UNIAN. In addition, the Ukrainian agency writes on its Telegram channel: “These fighters will probably be armed with Aim-120 Amraam air-to-air missiles, which have similar and maybe even better performance than the Russian R-77”.
In addition, it states: “The delivery of F-16 will provide Ukraine with a platform capable of easily integrating a wide range of sophisticated weapons systems should the United States and other countries choose to deliver these systems in the future should. They range from An/Alq-131 electronic countermeasures system against long-range kinetic weapons like the small diameter bomb and cruise missiles like the AGM-158 Jassm”.
“Once Ukraine is able to deploy F-16 aircraft, the doors will open for NATO countries to supply these weapons, since they are easily compatible with US-made fighter jets,” writes UNIAN.
