Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray underwent surgery Jan. 3 to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. So realistically, Murray has a good chance of being ready for the start of the season.

That doesn’t stop him from trying.

The season premiere of Cardinals Flight Plan is scheduled to air Thursday night on the Cardinals YouTube channel, and in a pre-release audio recording of the episode, Murray spoke about his goal of hurrying up and coming back.

“Looking further into the future, it seems like we still have a long way to go. “I would ideally like to be back in Week 1,” Murray said of arizonasports.com’s Tyler Drake in the episode. “That is the goal. Ultimately, that’s the goal, but I can’t really see that far ahead. I have to take it one day at a time.”

It’s Murray’s first interview since his December 12 injury in a game against the Patriots.

“It has to be positive. “There’s really no way it’s going to be anything negative,” Murray said of his rehab. “I have a feeling you’ll get your little reprieve when the time comes. Let the feelings take over, but afterwards [expletive], we must go. Life doesn’t stop; The job doesn’t stop. My number one goal is to get better and of course win Super Bowls. That is my goal.”

Murray completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 2,368 yards and 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. He also ran for 418 yards in his 11 starts and scored three points.

Colt McCoy is expected to start while Murray is out, with David Blough, Jeff Driskel and 2023 fifth-round draft pick Clayton Tune behind him.
