Steffy Beyong, Jay, Julie St-Pierre and Adam El Mouna fought their way to the semi-finals of the first live of the season of “La Voix” on Sunday night.
At Mels Studios, where twelve contestants defended their place in the adventure, the mood was sizzling.
Jennifer Lee-Dupuy, who will play the main character of the musical The Bodyguard, opened the evening with a number featuring the twelve contestants of this first quarterfinal. His incarnation of Whitney Houston is quite successful and his voice doesn’t live up to the comparison.
Frédérick de Grandpré simply appeared at the end of the number to emphasize his presence on the show.
Three contestants per team found themselves on stage to interpret a song of their choice that they were working on with their coach and benefited from Serge Denoncourt’s advice in staging their act.
At the end of the candidates’ performance, the coach has to distribute his 100 points among themselves, this vote is then combined with the audience vote percentage. The competitor with the highest score advances to the semifinals.
For Mario Pelchat’s team, Steffy Beyong was able to inject all the intensity and emotion the song required. With her deep and moving voice, she was able to directly touch the hearts of the audience.

Corneille knew how to follow Jay’s desire to defend himself with a completely revised version of Mario Pelchat’s “Crying in the rain”. A daring bet that will ultimately have paid off as it received the strongest audience vote of the evening.
