Labor MP Dawn Butler reveals she kissed Idris Elba as a teenager and cheekily admits ‘It could have been a great romance’
Dawn Butler has opened up about kissing Idris Elba when she was a teenager and how in another life she could have been his wife.
The 53-year-old Labor MP cheekily admitted she could have had a “huge romance” with the 50-year-old Luther actor.
The two have known each other since childhood as Idris was a regular at her father’s bakery in east London and they kissed when they were teenagers.
Discussing their near-romantic relationship, she told The Mirror: “Yes, I kissed Idris Elba when we were teenagers.” It could have been a great romance.
“My friend Pat and I were excited because we got along so well and were very close. We laughed so much because he’s so funny.”

Dawn went on to share how she and her friends encouraged Idris to go to America to pursue his acting dream and how he later got his big break on The Wire.
The politician, who is preparing for the publication of her book A Purposeful Life, said it was like time “hasn’t passed yet” when she sees her childhood friend Idris now.
She said she last saw the star at a pre-Covid pandemic party in Brent Central, which has been her constituency since 2015.
Idris married his wife Sabrina in 2019 and the two have been enjoying a romantic getaway in recent days.

In one fell swoop, Sabrina made the most of the sun as she hit the beach in a brown halterneck bikini and splashed in the water in a skimpy white two-piece.

The couple also headed to the tennis courts where they stood and watched the sun set.
Sabrina and Idris met at a party in 2017 and married in an extravagant ceremony two years later.
Though Idris famously claimed he would never marry again, he publicly proposed to Sabrina at a film screening before tying the knot in Marrakech in 2019.
Idris has daughter Isan with his ex-wife, makeup artist Hanne “Kim” Nørgaard, while he also has an eight-year-old son, Winston, with ex-girlfriend Naiyana Garth.
