Labor Shortages: The FEQ Seeks Workers for Site Dismantling

While the labor shortage didn’t hit the summer festival too hard, some skilled workers are still needed to dismantle the site once operations close on Sunday.

After two years of pandemic, the staff was very happy to get back in touch with the event and there weren’t many holes to fill, but some teams will still close a bit at the last minute.

The FEQ is not yet complete as management issued an announcement yesterday asking for support.

“We are looking for heavy machine operators to help us close the event and complete the dismantling,” the organizers said.

Candidates must have their Zoom Boom card to operate telescopic mast forklifts.

Confident in finding the rare gems, the FEQ experiences a mild stress that most people in the events space experience.

For example, Gestev, which specializes in organizing and managing events in Quebec City, often posts vacancies ahead of specific activities.

four or five people

The positions to be filled at the FEQ can currently be found in the field operations area.

“Like everyone else, we suffered an impact, but we did relatively well. Every time we’ve called everyone, people have been very responsive. We need four or five people to take it down,” said Samantha McKinley, vice president of communications, marketing and public affairs.

However, this type of machine operator is still a bit more difficult to find.

“It can be a little less. It’s a specific trade and there aren’t that many of them. We activated a battery of parallel networks to find the people we needed. The human resources department has made a great effort,” said the spokesman.

An attraction for the festival

The FEQ’s still very vibrant appeal has helped fill the gap in the industry.

“People are still taking vacations to come and work with the FEQ. It’s an adventure for about ten days. It really works in our favor,” concludes Ms McKinley.
