Lady Gaga joins U2 for “Shallow” and other duets at the Las Vegas Sphere – Variety

U2 found what they were looking for in a duet partner at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Wednesday night when Lady Gaga joined the group for duets on one of their songs, “Shallow,” and two of them, “All I Want Is You” and “All I Want Is You,” followed by “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.”

Bono introduced his fellow guest in the leather jacket as “the boldest, most vivacious woman in any room she has ever been in. Welcome to our turntable, the divine – the Divinyl!” – Lady Gaga.”

He wasn’t finished praising her divinity. “Take it to the Elvis Chapel!” Bono cheered in a breakdown in the middle of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and went on to tell his duet partner, “You’re the Vestal of Las Vegas!”

Their collaborative rendition of “All I Want Is You” segued without pause into Bono’s riffing on “Shallow,” with the singer slowly breaking into the tune and pointing at Gaga as if to make sure she stayed on stage through it all suggesting there’s a chance the band surprised them. Either way, she was more than ready for it.

Gaga returned to what was until recently her own stomping grounds in Nevada. Earlier this month, on October 5, she wrapped up an extension of her long-running Jazz & Piano show at Dolby Live at Park MGM.

Since leaving Las Vegas, Gaga seems to be embarking on her own tour – with the world’s most popular rock bands. As recently as October 19, she was on the other side of the country, appearing with the Rolling Stones in a performance of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” the song she sang with Mick Jagger on the band’s new album “Hackney Diamonds.” sings. This duet took place during a surprise 25-minute show at the 500-capacity Racket Club in Chelsea.

Shortly before Gaga took the stage in Las Vegas, the Stones’ YouTube account posted a full-length performance of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” with the band in New York.

Gaga’s guest appearance on Sphere wasn’t her first time walking down the aisle with U2, so to speak. She performed “Ordinary Love” with Bono and Co. at a show at Madison Square Garden in 2015.

So far, U2 has not had any prominent guests on stage at the band’s own residence in Las Vegas. There is plenty of time for more to emerge. The band recently announced an extension that adds 11 shows in January and February 2024, bringing the total number of concerts at the new venue to 36 for now. The newly added shows are scheduled for January 26th, 27th and 31st and February 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 17th and 18th.
