There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Australian Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, who is hoping to rekindle the buzz he sparked when he brought the can-can to Cannes with Moulin Rouge! 20 years ago.
The film chronicles the life and career of Elvis from his early days as a child in Mississippi to his rise as a rock ‘n’ roll icon and movie star, as well as his complex relationship with his manager.
Baz served as the film’s director and co-writer, along with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce and Jeremy Donner, from a story he conceived with Jeremy.
The musical drama stars Austin Butler as Elvis and Tom Hanks as his notorious manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
Elvis – who has sold over 1 billion records – received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018 and has been inducted into several Music Halls of Fame.
Elvis died in 1977 at the age of 42 from an abnormal heart rhythm caused by a toxic reaction to codeine.
