Killers of the Flower Moon is an American epic western crime thriller directed by Scorsese with Leonardo serving as executive producer.
The upcoming film, based on the best-selling 2017 non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann, centers on a series of murders in Oklahoma in the 1920s, which were committed after oil was discovered on tribal land.
The official synopsis reads: “At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought fortunes to the Osage nation, which overnight became one of the wealthiest people on earth.”
“The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white invaders who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as possible before resorting to murder.”
“Based on a true story and told through the unlikely romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), Killers of the Flower Moon is an epic western crime saga where true love meets unspeakable betrayal.”
Joining Leonardo is an all-star cast that includes Oscar winners Brendan Fraser, 54, John Lithgow, 77, and Jesse Plemons, 35.
The 36-year-old actress Lily Gladstone plays his great love Mollie Kyle.
The film marks Leo’s first appearance on the big screen since starring alongside 32-year-old Jennifer Lawrence in the Netflix film Don’t Look Up.

The film’s official trailer was released earlier this week and introduces viewers to Leo’s character, Ernest, who delves into the history of the Osage nation and explains that greed attracted “hungry wolves” to the area.
“Can you find the wolves in this picture?” he asks in the 90-second clip as dramatic scenes of violence and families torn apart flash on screen.
Based on a true story, the highly anticipated western has a running time of three hours and 26 minutes and will be available to stream upon release on Apple TV+.
