It may be good to change some habits. This is what the Senhora Juventude series shows

This Sunday's Fantástico (14) talks about health and longevity. Do sport, eat less but without missing out on important nutrients. Changing some habits can do a lot of good.

In Italy, residents of a village presented surprising medical tests. It's the last episode of “Women’s Youth”, The new BBC program is hosted by doctor and journalist Michael Mosley.

They say you are what you eat. So choose wisely if you want to live a healthier lifestyle.

After age 60, the process of converting food into energy begins to lose effectiveness due to the effects of aging on metabolism. This can lead to weight gain and increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Therefore, it is important to change habits as we get older.

“If you maintain the same diet as you age, you will gradually accumulate fat as calories are no longer burned,” points out Parco Siu, a professor of sports medicine at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Siu's research compared various physical activities in more than 500 volunteers over the age of 50, all of whom were overweight. The volunteers were divided into three groups: one was sedentary, another did aerobic and strength training for 12 weeks, and the third practiced Tai Chi Chuan for one hour three times a week for 12 weeks.

Six months after the study, the results showed that the group that practiced Tai Chi had a significant reduction in abdominal circumference, even surpassing the group that did strength training. Regular tai chi practice can strengthen an area of the brain called the insula, which regulates appetite, resulting in less hunger after exercise.

The secret of longevity in the bloodstream

In the Cilento region of Italy, home to the largest concentration of centenarians in Europe, the secret to longer life lies in good blood circulation. Studies show that blood microcirculation is crucial for energizing the entire body, and this region is characterized by a healthy diet rich in vegetables, olive oil and red wine.

The fasting habit practiced by monks of the Orthodox Christian Church is an ancient practice that contributes to longer life. Intermittent fasting, similar to the monk diet, has been shown to reduce the incidence of cancer and heart disease.

Therefore, in addition to aging metabolism, taking care of your diet, practicing exercises like Tai Chi, and adopting habits like intermittent fasting can be important keys to a healthier and longer life. It is recommended to consult a doctor before starting any diet.
