December 10th marked the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly. This was the reason for unveiling the memorial plaque at the entrance to the Human Rights Garden in Lauterbach the day before. Initiator Heinz Spindler organized a small ceremony together with the community to unveil this plaque with dignity.
Mayor Margit Göll welcomed some community representatives as well as Deputy Mayor Roman Prager. Karl Wieninger, responsible for creating the human rights garden, was also present. He joined the group of singers playing Eva Kempf's piano sounds. Michael Schweiger of Amnesty International Austria reported on current massive human rights violations, particularly through sexual violence in the Middle East.
Heinz Spindler presented some facts on the topic of children's rights and noted that last year the worrying figure of 11,000 missing children appeared in international reports. He emphasized that a protocol against the deportation of children and young people signed twelve years ago has not yet been ratified and also addressed other issues, such as violence against women and war resisters.
