Analysts hit back at ‘silly’ criticism of Lamar Jackson: ‘Most respected great player of all time’
NFL analysts continue to gossip at an unnamed defensive coordinator’s absurd comments about Lamar Jackson in The Athletic’s annual quarterback grades.
In case you missed it, the DC said of Jackson, who was placed in Tier 2 based on the vote of 50 NFL coaches and executives, “If he has to pass to win the game, they don’t win the game.” He’s so unique as an athlete and he’s a really good football player, but I don’t care if he’s league MVP 12 times, I don’t think he’ll ever be an A at quarterback.
ESPN’s Louis Riddick described the comments as “idiotic”.
“That sounded like someone sharpening an ax. Someone who personally feels like no matter what Lamar does, they just won’t change their mind about him,” Riddick said on Get Up. “And then you do it without ever being outed for it, which means no one ever knows who really said it.
“It’s cowardly, especially when you’re so hard on someone and you’re like, ‘I don’t care what you do, you’ll never get to that level in my mind.’ See, I understand anonymity when it comes to reporting and sources and all that. Seems like an overstatement. No, it doesn’t seem like an exaggeration, it’s an exaggeration. That doesn’t seem cowardly, it is cowardly. And that doesn’t seem personal, it’s personal.”
