Lanaudière: One dead and two injured in accident

A serious traffic accident between a car and a tow truck left one dead and two injured late Monday morning in Sainte-Mélanie in the Lanaudière region.

The tragedy happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Route 348 and Rang Kildare, on the border of the municipality of Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare.

According to authorities, the driver of the car made his mandatory stop at the intersection before entering Route 348 “with no guarantee of safety.”

The tow truck driving on Route 348 could no longer avoid the impact.

The local fire department used a lifeline tongs to free the passenger from the car. The elderly woman, in her 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was already lifeless and confined aboard the wreckage of his vehicle when emergency services arrived. His death was announced on the spot.

The victim is a 28-year-old man from Laval.

The tow truck driver escaped with minor injuries.

A portion of Route 348 was completely closed to traffic to allow crash site investigators to determine the cause and circumstances of the tragedy.
