Meanwhile, his Aston Martin team-mate Fernando Alonso crossed the finish line in ninth place. The Canadian-British team thus secured three points in the Constructors’ Championship. It is still in third place, 15 points ahead of Ferrari.

“I think tenth place is the best we could achieve today. [dimanche], said Stroll, whose comments were reported on Aston Martin’s website. I had a good first lap and I’m happy with my overtaking maneuver at the expense of the inside [Valtteri] Boots. Then I just didn’t have the right pace.”

The 24-year-old from Montreal started from 14th place on the grid.

“As a team, I think we still have some work to do to figure out what we do best,” Stroll said. The car is fast but we can still do better and that has to be our priority for the rest of the season. We will use what we learned at Spa-Francorchamps [le Grand Prix de Belgique] next week. We will work hard as always.”

“Scoring points with our two cars is the maximum we can achieve,” said Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack. It was a smooth and uneventful race and the results matched the speed as we finished behind our direct competitors. Lance and Fernando both performed very well but we lack the power to challenge higher. Lance was particularly good at finishing just behind Fernando from his original starting position.

“Today is a reality check. “We have to keep our heads down, keep working hard and look ahead to get back to where we were at the start of the season,” added Krack.
