Rio Actress Valéria Barcellos, who currently stars in the soap opera “Terra e Paixão” as the character Luana Shine, expressed on social media her embarrassment at being prevented from using the women’s toilet at the Fairmont Hotel in Rio, during the costume party for the socialite Narcisa Tamborindeguy. Valéria regretted the transphobic statement made by the site’s security team, even after she took off her Freddie Mercury costume to use the room.

“I dressed up as Freddie Mercrury in I Want to Free Myself. I was extremely embarrassed as I tried to go to the ladies’ room. As I was about to enter, security stopped me and said, ‘The men’s room is on the other side. In a desperate gesture, I stuck out my chest and asked, ‘Do you really want me to go to the men’s room?’ She let me,” reported Valéria on Instagram.

The actress said she cried a lot after the incident. “I cried in the bathroom, took off my costume and my night ended there! The fragility of my gender identity is so great for cisgenderity that any ‘deviation’ from the gender symbol erases me. I am shocked, sad and insulted. “Does a team like Fairmont allow that?” he asked.

According to Valéria, she was supported by Narcisa Tamborindeguy, but the artist is still waiting for an apology from the hotel. “Narcissa, thank you for your affection, care and love,” he said.

Several colleagues expressed their solidarity with Valéria. “Lover! That’s because you’re on the nine o’clock soap opera!!! That’s because you stayed in an incredible hotel. But… An unprepared being full of prejudice has decided to be the master of morality! Regrettable. “Feel hugged!”, said presenter Astrid Fontenelle. “My dear, a situation like this is incredible. Count on me,” said actress Barbara Reis, protagonist of “Land and Paixão”.

When contacted by the DIA, the Fairmont Hotel did not yet comment on the matter.
