Villas built on a cliff in California have moved even closer to the edge after a landslide sent tons of rock and earth falling into the sea.

Stunning photos show the three villas in Dana Point, just a stone's throw from the Pacific, after the landslide. To the surprise of many, there is no risk of the properties falling into the sea.

Lewis Bruggeman, owner of one of the homes in the area south of Los Angeles, told a local television station that his property “is not and will not be threatened. The authorities agree that there is currently no major structural damage.”

The landslide occurred after storms hit California. Beforeandafter photos published by the Los Angeles Times show that a huge green space that was behind Bruggeman's mansion has disappeared.

Dana Point officials stressed that while the photos were dramatic, there was no immediate danger. “Engineers who inspected the home said there is no damage or immediate threat to its structure, which is good news,” said Dana Point Mayor Jamey Federico, quoted by the Los Angeles Times.

Last week's storms in Southern California caused more than 500 landslides in Los Angeles alone. According to meteorologists, there could be renewed flooding in the area in the coming days.
