LanguageTool’s history begins in 2003 as an open source project. Over the course of contributions and developments, the project has grown into a real voice application used by millions of people and present on all platforms.
LanguageTool is now able to ensure this Spelling and syntax correction in no less than 30 different languages, including French. The company, based not far from Berlin, consists of linguists, content creators, but also developers and data scientists.

Applications, extensions, modules
The number of applications and extensions is dizzying. In fact, LanguageTool can ensure the correction and optimization of texts in several forms:
- Native appe on Windows, macOS and iOS. An application is also available for Linux.
- Extensions for all web browsers: Chromium (Chrome, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi), Firefox or Safari.
- Modules for the main part Office suites : Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, Google Docs and OnlyOffice via third-party integration.
How much does it cost ?
The LanguageTool application is Free up to 20,000 characters per entrywith a maximum of 3 AI reformulations (per day).
The premium version costs €59.90 per year. This paid edition offers improved grammar and style, up to 150,000 characters per input field, a style guide and module for Word, and customer support.
Open source
The application is developed as open source on Github. The main functions of LanguageTool are: Open source. Anyone can create their own LanguageTool server locally or in the cloud.
The European Union and the European Regional Development Fund (FEATHER) Subsidize LanguageTool. In particular, the development of algorithms for error detection in multilingual texts and the improvement of our browser modules and our website.
