1:00 p.m. – An accident causes significant traffic jams on the Île d’Orléans bridge and a motorist has been arrested.
According to the Sûreté du Québec, there was a collision between two vehicles at the bridge exit, exactly in the area between the bridge and the coast to Île d’Orléans.
The person suspected of causing the accident tried to overtake and collided with the vehicle in front of her.
She then tried to escape. She was arrested for dangerous driving causing risk of injury, hit-and-run and driving while impaired, the SQ said.
The victim’s vehicle went off the road into the ditch, overturned and landed on its side. The airbags were deployed.
There were three adults and one child on board. The injuries are believed to be minor, the SQ said.

At 3pm there is still significant traffic congestion and police need to carry out an investigation and analysis of the scientific evidence as criminal charges may be laid. Traffic is only possible alternately.
