“The real problem was [then-President] Donald Trump retweeted the Biden picture,” Taibbi added.

Trump, 76, announced in November that he would attempt to win back the White House in 2024, but may face stiff competition from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Although Twitter had not yet started banning users for sharing the QAnon conspiracy theory, the company has “deamplified” their accounts to prevent their tweets from spreading, according to an Oct. 28, 2020 email.

However, Schiff’s office questioned whether this action — which “we greatly appreciate” — “could inadvertently impair law enforcement’s ability to scan Twitter for potential threats against Intelligence Committee officials,” according to an excerpt from an undated E -Mail that Taibbi posted.

Last week, Taibbi announced that Schiff’s office was trying to have journalist Paul Sperry, a Post columnist, suspended from Twitter for allegedly “repeatedly promoting false QAnon conspiracies and harassing someone” whose name was redacted.

Sperry told The Post that he “never encouraged any ‘QAnon conspiracies’.” je. Not on Twitter. Nowhere” and accused Schiff of “a whimsical defamation”.

Sperry later tweeted that he was “exploring all legal options,” including a possible defamation lawsuit against Schiff.

Earlier this week, newly elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) vowed to keep his promise that Schiff, who was the lead House Representative during Trump’s first impeachment trial, would set up the Intelligence Committee.

McCarthy also has the reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in payback for removing the reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) targeted their committee seats in 2021.

Requests for comment from Schiff’s office and the DNC were not immediately answered.
