Latin American Dentistry Day celebrated in Cuba Ministerio de Salud

To commemorate this October 3, Latin American Dentistry Day, the event for the event in this capital was held at the Raúl González Sánchez Faculty of Dentistry in Havana.

The ceremony, attended by Dr. Reinol García Moreiro, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Dr. Jorge González Pérez, National Director of Medical Education of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), served to recognize the career of Doctors of Science Ileana Bárbara Grau León, Carmen Dolores Hernández Martínez and Denia Morales Navarro, whose contributions from teaching and Research for Cuban dentistry are noteworthy.

Mariela García Jordán, national director of stomatology at MINSAP, spoke “Both specialists and technicians, with their daily performance and wisdom, are essential pillars for the improvement of the dental sciences.”

García Jordán expressed his gratitude to the professors who have trained several generations of dentists throughout the national territory, whose number of graduates exceeds 19,000 professionals dedicated to this specialty.

The largest of the Antilles has in all its universities of medical sciences a management model based on comprehensive general stomatology, making it possible to carry out actions for the promotion, prevention, cure and rehabilitation of oral health in each age group.

in the act A special recognition was given to the Dentistry Faculty of Havana, Raúl González Sánchez for excellence in its academic, scientific and university expansion processes, enjoying national and international prestige.

Also presented was the documentary film El profe Compa, Ciencia e Historia, dedicated to the work of the university’s honorary professor and Doctor of Science, Félix Alberto Companioni Landín. In turn, a plaque was unveiled in honor of Rigoberto Otaño Lugo (1930-2010), who represented the Antilles nation for two terms as vice-president of the Latin American Odontological Federation (Fola), among other merits that appear in his extensive file Journal services.

Every October 3rd since 1925, Cuba and other countries in the region have celebrated the Day of Latin American Stomatology in honor of the founding of the Fola, which took place on the same day but in 1917.
