At a summit in France, the presidents of Cuba, Brazil and Colombia are discussing a fairer and more solidaritybased financial system
Latin Press France is hosting the summit on a new global financial pact this Thursday (22nd) which will be attended by Latin American leaders such as the Presidents of Cuba, Miguel DíazCanel, Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Colombia, Gustavo Petro . More than a hundred heads of state and government were invited by host Emmanuel Macron to the twoday forum dedicated to building consensus for a more responsive, fairer and more supportive financial system. The aim is to fight inequalities, combat climate change and achieve sustainable development goals.
DíazCanel arrived in the capital as president of the Group of 77 plus China, a coalition formed in 1964 of 134 of the United Nations’ 193 member states. In return, Petro will participate in one of the six planned roundtables entitled “A New Method: Partnering for Green Growth”. At his side will be the dignitaries of Egypt and South Africa, Abdel Fattah AlSissi and Cyril Ramaphosa, respectively, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley is another figure from the Latin American and Caribbean region attending the summit at the Palais Brongniart. According to the program, Mottley, UN SecretaryGeneral António Guterres and Niger President Mohamed Bazoum will deliver speeches this morning, following Macron’s opening remarks and interventions from civil society representatives.
The summit on the new global financial pact ends on Friday with the group photo, the closing ceremony and a press conference.
