In the accompanying interview, she spoke to Derek Blasberg about what it’s like to be one half of one of the world’s most philanthropic couples, including her desire to balance her professional and personal lives.
“It’s the greatest experience I’ve ever had.” I’ve always had a career that was very independent of my partner’s. “I think that now I can work with my partner and be with him all the time,” she said of their shared philanthropic initiatives and passion projects.
“Living with Jeff is like a master class every day,” she said. “What he really taught me a lot is management.” Biggest piece of advice? I do a lot of meetings and I talk in a meeting first and he says, “No, no, no. You are the boss. You’re the last to speak. You let everyone else talk so they don’t let themselves be influenced by your opinion.”‘
Bezos also advised her to keep the meeting under an hour if possible and to have the person leading the meeting write a document of no more than six pages long about what is being discussed and why.
“I don’t know how he does it; “He can read documents for hours,” she shared.
