The latest: Lauren Scruggs, 34, and her spouse Jason Kennedy, 41, took to Instagram on Tuesday with a heartwarming clip in which they revealed they’re part of their family as they are parents to son Ryver, one
The clip began with Kennedy playing peek a boo with his one-year-old son and giving a positive pregnancy test while the adorable tot laughed in his crib. Ryver was seen beaming as he held up the pregnancy test and sat with his parents.
Kennedy in April 2022 revealed that Scruggs had to undergo vacuum extraction during childbirth, suffering a fourth-degree vaginal tear in the process.
Scruggs had planned a natural birth at home, but she ended up in the hospital after 23 hours of labour.
He took to Instagram to share video of Scruggs in labor at home and in the hospital, followed by footage of them with their newborn baby.
“My wife is amazing. She has been hiding for the past few weeks to allow her to heal. Our home birth didn’t go as planned,” he wrote in the caption. “After 23 hours we drove to the hospital. It took Ryver another 10 hours.’
“Lo had a degree 4 tear and we had to do a vacuum birth,” he added. “Great doctor, midwives and team. I watch her pump, hold and comfort my son as I type this. I love those moments, I love that feeling and I love how you take care of our boy. I love you.’
A vacuum extraction, also known as a vacuum-assisted delivery, is a procedure that uses a vacuum device to assist in the delivery of a baby during vaginal delivery.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the health care provider applies a vacuum to the baby’s head to guide the infant out of the birth canal, typically during a contraction while the mother is pushing.

The procedure may be recommended when the mother is pushing but labor is not progressing or the baby’s health depends on an immediate delivery.
There are potential risks, including harm to the mother or baby. A cesarean section may be needed if vacuum extraction does not help during labor.
Scruggs suffered a perineal laceration, which is common with vaginal births. The degrees of severity range from the first and second degree for minor cuts and abrasions to the third and fourth degree for deep muscle and tissue tears.
A fourth-degree tear like the one she experienced is the most severe because it extends through the anal sphincter and into the lining of the rectum, according to the Mayo Clinic.
While Kennedy did not detail his wife’s treatment, fourth-degree tears usually must be repaired in an operating room with the mother under anesthesia.
Scruggs previously shared her “ultimate birth plan” in a blog post [was] a natural birth.’
She explained that initially she thought she was going to give birth in a hospital with an epidural, but after she started “not feeling very comfortable with it [her] OB,” she addressed the midwives and met with a doula.
“Our doula has helped me replace the fear with the beauty of childbirth, letting go of control, embracing support, and opening up to the pain and sinking because the joy is ahead,” she said.
Kennedy paid tribute to Scruggs last year after the birth of her first child, Ryver Rhodes, by releasing a compilation video documenting her labor and delivery
The former E! The news anchor said his wife gave birth to Ryver for 10 hours and explained she needed a vacuum extraction, a procedure that uses a device to help deliver a baby
Kennedy also shared that Scruggs suffered a grade four vaginal tear, the most serious perineal injury occurring in a vaginal birth
