A child was seriously injured in a traffic accident on Sunday morning in Sainte-Adèle in the Laurentians. Alcohol would be to blame.
It was around 5:45 a.m. on Highway 15 at mile 74 when the driver lost control of the vehicle before overturning. In addition to the driver, there was also a child in the car. The rescue tongs were necessary to free the latter from the car, explained Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The seriously injured child was taken to a hospital in the region but was transferred to the Sainte-Justine hospital for appropriate care. Fortunately, there is no fear for his life in the short term, Sergeant Bilodeau added.
The driver, who appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol, stopped and was taken to the police station, where he refused to take a breathalyzer test. The latter also provided for a curfew and a ban on driving motor vehicles in Canada.
He could face charges of driving under the influence, refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test, driving ban and violating a suspended sentence, SQ spokeswoman Ève Brochu-Joubert confirmed
