Six people, aged between 30 and 51, have been arrested by Laval police in connection with a network of thefts from vehicles bound for overseas export.
The investigation, launched last September, found the suspects would be linked to 13 files of auto thefts in Laval, Montreal and the north coast.
Dodge Ram and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles were attacked primarily in commercial parking lots in these communities.
After the car was stolen, the suspects left it in the parking lot of an apartment building or retirement home. A few days later, the vehicle was transported to a warehouse in Montreal to be loaded into a container for export.
Two of those arrested appeared at Laval courthouse and were released, three others remained detained and the last one was released on subpoena. They are charged with possessing property obtained through a criminal act, stealing a vehicle, being illegally present in an apartment and receiving more than $5,000.
The searches seized 11 vehicles, a boat, a watercraft, six trailers and 53 sports tires and wheels. Nearly $36,000 in Canadian money and $12,160 in American money were also found.
