Laval: failed theft, police pursuit and vehicle upside down

Two teenagers and a young adult were arrested in Laval early Wednesday morning after the suspects’ vehicle ended up upside down in a residential driveway during a police chase.

The bizarre story began around 3:30 a.m. when patrol officers spotted a Honda Civic approaching a Toyota Highlander SUV — one of the most stolen vehicles in the country — in the Hilton hotel parking lot off Highway 15.

“Police observed that maneuvers were underway to steal the vehicle,” said Agent Erika Landry, Laval Police spokeswoman.

The patrol officers then took action to apprehend the criminals. However, the latter fled with a bang and at the same time triggered a police chase.

The fugitives successively took the access road to Highway 15, Boulevard Curé-Labelle, Boulevard Gabriel, and finally Boulevard Dagenais before the driver lost control of his car.

He flipped over, mowing down a tree and a street sign before ending his run on all four wheels in the air at the entrance to the courtyard of a residential building on rue Firmin in the Fabreville district.

Despite the severity of the impact, the three occupants of the car – an 18-year-old boy and two 17-year-old teenagers – managed to escape.

Two of them were quickly found and then handcuffed, while the third was held down with the help of a dog handler later that night.

One of the youths was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

He was later released with a promise to appear.

The other two suspects were due to appear in court on Wednesday on various charges.
