During Monday, the Laval Police Service (SPL) said it had been informed “that certain citizens of Laval had received an envelope containing a white powder of an unknown nature and an extortion letter containing threatening words.”

Detectives from the criminal investigation department have taken up the case and are currently trying to “obtain further information about these events,” the police said.

“If you have received such a letter in the last few days or notice the presence of a suspicious envelope at your home, please contact your police department immediately via 911 to inform them of the situation,” Laval police state.

This reminds citizens “not to touch or open the envelope and to wait for the police to arrive.” Further details may be revealed in the coming days, particularly as the type of white powder in question is identified.
