Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro this Tuesday during his visit to the Latin American country and presented him with a personal invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Russia.

“I would like to bring you a message from the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. He has also asked me to verbally convey his best wishes and greetings to him. You have his invitation to visit Russia at any time,” Lavrov told the Venezuelan President.

During the meeting at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, Lavrov and Maduro discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the political and commercial spheres between the two countries.

For his part, the Venezuelan President stressed that he knew how “fruitful” Lavrov’s work was in Brazil and now in Venezuela. “We will advance work on issues that unite us,” he told the Russian diplomat.

Earlier, the head of Russian diplomacy had a meeting with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and her counterpart Yván Gil Pinto.

SOLID TIES
Venezuela’s foreign ministry said Tuesday that relations between Russia and Venezuela are “a solid alliance” that is constantly expanding.

“The support between Venezuela and Russia has not only been demonstrated in strategic areas, but also the solidarity in defending sovereignty and the call for the lifting of the MCU (unilateral coercive measures) have been a flagship in the bi-national relations,” it said. a publication issued by the ministry entitled “Venezuela and Russia, a solid strategic alliance in constant growth”.

For his part, Lavrov noted that “Venezuela is one of Russia’s most reliable partners. Our states are linked by a close strategic partnership based on the conceptual closeness of approaches to the main issues of the global agenda, mutually beneficial projects and strong ties of friendship and mutual sympathy between peoples,” stressed the Russian Foreign Minister.

Venezuela is the second destination of the chief of Russian diplomacy on his trip to Latin America after visiting Brazil on Monday. As part of this trip, which will take place from April 17th to 21st, the Minister will also visit Cuba and Nicaragua.
