LCF Expanding into Quebec soon

LCF: Expanding into Quebec soon?

The Canadian Football League (CFL) is looking to expand and several options are on the table, including Quebec City.

In an interview with TSN’s James Duthie before the start of the Gray Cup game between the Montreal Alouettes and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, commissioner Randy Ambroise gave interesting details about the circuit’s plans to add a new franchise.

At the moment he would like to give a city in the Maritimes a chance, but if that doesn’t work out, Quebec could well be chosen to base a team there.

“If at some point we realize we can’t do it now, we have to pivot, and that doesn’t mean we get upset with Atlantic Canada,” he said on air. But we’ll try one last time and see what we can do.”

For him, Quebec would be a very logical choice.

“It’s a place with a lot of potential,” Ambroise continued. We have not yet had formal discussions on this issue, but we definitely need to open the doors to this city.

Ambroise responds to controversy

Since the celebrations surrounding the game began, several people present on site have noticed that the presentation is predominantly in English.

Apparently a lot of people didn’t like that, and Ambroise wanted to answer them.

“There are many products [bilingues] this week, he said. I also wear my scarf with the league logo in both languages. We’ll always be a CFL/CFL league, there’s no doubt about that.”

“I think we switch more or less English or French depending on the market we are in. We sat down with Mike Weightman [le président des Alouettes] this week, and we said to him, ‘Let’s meet after the Gray Cup to find a new strategy for our brands and our language strategy’.”
