“We are delighted that audiences continue to come to Le temps d’unété in large numbers. It’s very rare to see a second [week-end] as strong as the first. This is a sign of the extremely positive word of mouth surrounding the film! It’s very exciting to see that even when major American blockbusters hit the box office, there is room for Quebec cinema and audiences to respond,” said Patrick Roy, President of Immina Films.

Barbie, as expected, outperformed the competition and raked in $2,043,648 in Quebec from July 21-23, ahead of rival Oppenheimer from Christopher Nolan, who has an interest in the father of the atomic bomb. For his part, Oppenheimer generated $1,119,786 in three days in La Belle province.

Mission: Impossible – Death toll, Part One suffered from the Barbenheimer phenomenon, with Tom Cruise settling for $552,876 in Quebec theaters for a total of $2,462,451 over three weeks.

At the North American level, Barbie triumphed with sales of $155 million ahead of Oppenheimer ($80.5 million), Sound of Freedom ($20.1 million) and Mission: Impossible – Death toll Part One ($19.5 million).

The next big theatrical release for a Quebec film is Anik Jean’s My Mother’s Men on August 4th.
