Joint statement condemns Hamas attacks
The leaders of the United States, Germany, Britain, France and Italy issued a joint statement on Monday condemning attacks on Israel by the Islamic militant group Hamas and expressing their “firm and unified support” for the Israelis brought.
“In the coming days, we will remain united and coordinated, together as allies and as mutual friends of Israel, to ensure that Israel is able to defend itself and ultimately create the conditions for a peaceful and integrated Middle East region.” he said, according to a statement signed by US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
In the statement released by the White House, Western powers added that they “recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people” but said Hamas “offers the Palestinian people nothing other than more terror and bloodshed.”
The leaders also called on “other extremist groups or any state that wishes to exploit the situation, in particular Iran, not to exploit the situation for other purposes or to expand the conflict.”
