Leaving the bars on the Grande Allée: a real mess for the SPVQ on Friday evening

The exit from the bars on the Grande Allée in Quebec was very eventful on the night from Friday to Saturday. After a riot, two people were arrested, which made the police’s job much more difficult.

At around 3:15 a.m., police first noticed a 21-year-old woman attacking another woman. They decided to intervene to stop the crime and prevent anyone from suffering serious harm.

Then things got complicated. The suspect fiercely resisted police intervention, then the crowd joined in.

“The crowd of several dozen people began to surround the police officers and individuals intervened and hindered the work of the police officers by shouting insults,” said Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ) spokesman David Poitras.

A 24-year-old young man was arrested

During the scuffle, one man even tried to grab the stun gun that was in a police officer’s holster.

Reinforcements quickly arrived on site to help the police push back the crowd.

However, individuals continued to obstruct the police’s work, including obstructing the suspect’s escort to the patrol car, which led to another arrest.

“A 24-year-old man who was disrupting the crowd had to be subdued with oleoresin peppers (cayenne pepper). Police arrested him for obstructing and assaulting a peace officer. He was arrested,” explains David Poitras.

After the disturbance, police were unable to locate the original victim of the attack. The suspect was released with a ticket for causing a disturbance.
