Leaving the street during a police operation: the BEI opens an investigation in Lac-Saint-Jean –

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) opened an investigation on Saturday related to an intervention by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in Saint-Bruno, Lac-Saint-Jean.

Five investigators are being called in to find out what happened on the night of October 27-28, while one man remains in critical condition.

The SQ’s intervention began at the request of the Saguenay police. Two people appealed to authorities after a car allegedly “raced” another vehicle before entering a provincial road in Chicoutimi County.

Provincial police patrol officers then located one of the vehicles around 1:05 a.m. a few dozen kilometers to the west in Saint-Bruno.

The officers reportedly activated their flashing lights before turning around and walking toward the other car. The driver of the latter then lost control before veering off the road.

He suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital.

Due to the circumstances of the events, the BEI also requested the intervention of the Montreal City Police Department. SPVM investigators will therefore conduct a parallel criminal investigation.

The Office of Independent Investigations also called potential witnesses to the scene. You are invited to communicate with him via his website.
