Lebanon’s Inalienable Right to Water Abundance Reaffirmed

Beirut, July 5 (Prensa Latina) The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today reaffirmed Lebanon’s inalienable right to benefit from its water wealth in the face of pressure from Israel under the protection of the United States.

The political organization called on all national forces to unite around the option of resisting Israeli-US aggression to defend natural resources.

In this sense, the PDP welcomed the operation of the Lebanese Islamic Resistance last Saturday, when it fired three unarmed drones for reconnaissance missions on the disputed area in the Karish countryside.

In a statement to Prensa Latina, the PDP expressed that Hezbollah’s (Party of God’s) response to Israel’s aggression against Lebanon’s wealth confirms the resistance’s patriotism and willingness to protect the homeland.

Likewise, MP Melhem Al-Hujairi believed that the Party of God’s message establishes the right of the Lebanese people to invest in their oil and gas wealth given the ambitions of Israel and the United States.

MP Al-Hujairi bemoaned the positions of Lebanese officials whose ambitions and narrow interests push them to present credentials to the US international mediator at the expense of Lebanese national interests.

An oil- and gas-rich area of about 860 square kilometers is disputed between Lebanon and Israel, according to local reports, according to maps both countries have filed with the United Nations.

The Lebanese delegation presented a new map at past talks endorsing an additional 1,430 kilometers, leading to Israel’s suspension of negotiations in 2021.

The presence of the Energean Power platform in early June on Lebanon’s southern border with occupied Palestine has fueled the naval dispute with Tel Aviv.

With the appointment of the American mediator Amos Hochstein to Beirut, the highest Lebanese authorities of state, government and parliament presented a unified position on the right to use their water resources and demanded the direct cessation of all activities of the Israeli Navy in the conflict zone.

In this regard, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah reiterated the resistance’s financial, military and security capabilities to prevent Israel from exploring Lebanon’s wealth.
