Most people go out on New Year’s Eve, but LeBron James preferred to ring in 2023 by staying at home and playing the latest version of Madden in front of his wife of nine, Savannah.
Online footage shows the couple hanging out in the living room on Sunday before Savannah, who is recording, asked James, who is too busy playing video games, “This is how you make me ring in the new year?”
The four-time NBA champion turned and replied, “By playing Madden? I mean listen. I was in Atlanta all weekend, had a birthday party, won a basketball game…celebrated my birthday with you and my mom, [saw] The crushing loss of the state of Ohio…so I gotta get it done.

“The King” was a reference to the Buckeyes’ 41-42 loss to Georgia in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs. On Saturday, the 38-year-old tweeted constantly throughout the game and was thrilled when wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. led Ohio State in touchdowns (2) – before suffering a concussion in the second half.
When the post-season-tied Minnesota Vikings play one of the NFL’s leaders at the Indianapolis Colts on Madden, it’s widely believed that James is now a Cleveland Browns fan after distancing himself from the Dallas Cowboys.
“I needed to relax with the Cowboys,” he said in October. “There were a lot of things going on when the boys were on their knees and the boys had freedom of speech and they wanted to do it in a very peaceful way. A lot of people in their front office said if you do this you will never play for this franchise again.

“I just didn’t think it was appropriate,” he added. “I still like a lot of players on the team (CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs). I’m all with the Browns.’
Last Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers forward celebrated his birthday in style by nearly losing a 40-point triple-double against the Atlanta Hawks in a 130-121 win.
In the end, James recorded 47 points, nine assists and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of play.
The Lakers are now 15-21 overall and are 13th in the Western Conference. The team meets the Charlotte Hornets in North Carolina on Monday.
