By the late 1990s, the public and film industry had welcomed the arrival of a new star with open arms. Leele Sobieski He wasn’t even of age yet, already had blockbusters on his CV and gained experience after working on projects with experts such as Tom Cruise Morgan Freeman Stanley Kubrick Luc Besson either JJ Abrams.

With every film she made, she managed to captivate us a little more, exuding a special appeal that made her stand out with each character. From the charismatic survivor of Deep Impact to the adorable nerd of Never Kissed, walking through Joan of Arc, Eyes Wide Shut, or her leap into thriller Paul Walker at lethal frequency. A cocktail of colorful films that, between home video and cable broadcasts, brought her to the screens of the world as an active and constant figure.

Leelee was, in other words, the epitome of the most stylish turn-of-the-century neighbor. However, one day he said enough is enough. He gave up filming and the world of cinema completely to follow his vocation to leap into the void. A passion he’d kept secret while climbing the rungs to the top of Hollywood..

On a personal level, I consider myself one of the many spectators betting on it Leele Sobieski every time it appeared on the screen. And I don’t think I’m the only one. On the contrary, the constant and prominent presence it had on billboards around the world between 1998 and 2009 reflects the boom that the industry has experienced.

And that’s it Leelee Sobieski had a special aura that caught you. Disinterested in fame both in films and through his star image. He did this with poorly executed productions like Last Suspicion, the remake of The Sinister Cult with Nicolas Cage or the thriller 88 Minutes with Al Pacino; or with brief appearances, like her brief romance with Johnny Depp on Public Enemies or her stint on an episode of The Exemplary Wife.

In return, he radiated a pronounced maturity for his age. His choppy voice conveyed a unique sophistication but he didn’t seem interested in watching the All-Star Game. And just as he was telling Jay Leno that he collects the hair of the celebrities he works with because “autographs are impersonal,” he made a sick joke about sharing the same toilet seat as Monica Lewinsky at a dinner party.

But then, having come a long way and building a career, he disappeared. From TV shows, premieres and movies. And now, a decade later, it’s almost impossible to find her on social media or search for any information about her life unless you know she changed her stage name. Now it says Leele Kimmel.

Leelee He was born on June 10, 1983 in New York into a family of artists. His mother is a film producer and screenwriter and his father is a painter. However, her arrival in the world of cinema came about quite accidentally when a talent scout saw her in a school canteen. The discovery led to the casting of Claudia in Interview with the Vampire (1994), which famously went to Kirsten Dunst. In any case, even if she did not succeed, in the same year she began to work on other projects and launched her career as an actress. That was shortly after, in 1998 Deep Impact catapulted her to stardom with a massive $349 million in grossing and critical acclaim for her performance.

One project followed another as, away from the spotlight, he strengthened his personal life by starting his own family. She had two children, Louisiana Ray in 2009 and Martin in 2014, with her husband, fashion designer Adam Kimmel. In 2012 he made his last film. He disappeared without a trace and reappeared years later in occasional interviews. For example, he told Vogue in 2012 that he no longer wanted to do romantic scenes because “90% of the characters involve a lot of sexual things with other people and I don’t want to do that.”

But there was much more to his giving up. As she told AnOther in 2018, since she was 15, she felt under a lot of pressure to pay her parents’ rent, while the physical pressures of work devastated her. “Things were getting complicated for me … So I quit when I could. It’s a pretty gross industry, they all are if you look at it, but in acting you sell your looks way too much. I cried every time I had to kiss someone, I couldn’t take it […] Why was my kiss for sale? I felt so cheap.”

And so… he left Hollywood behind to focus on his family and his true calling. One that had nothing to do with acting or cinema. Because while she was making movies and walking red carpets, Leelee had always drawn from the industry in her dressing room and behind her back. He used to cover the floors of his trailers with plastic so he could paint between breaks. “I worked diligently in secret,” he told ArtNet in 2018. “Painting has always been my goal; I kept getting distracted by work and paying bills.”

Since 2016 he has been working as a professional artist, painting on huge canvases and creating virtual reality. He usually exhibits his work in New York but has also taken it to galleries in Paris, Shanghai and South Korea.

“There’s a lot of energy and vibration in my paintings and the whole world is connected,” explained Kimmel, comparing the sense of control he feels while painting to the experience of shooting. “If you’re on a team and 150 people are urging you to fall in love with someone else, they’re all for it. That’s the energy of a lot of people, but it’s wrong.”

“Actors go from one role to the next with all this energy and you just get emptier, you end up having no real experiences,” he laments. “To cry, you end up drawing on the experiences of another character you’ve played.” And in particular, he added that he no longer wants to interpret romance novels because of his daughters. “I don’t want my kids watching Netflix and seeing me on the screen in the arms of someone other than their parent.”

more than ten years ago Leelee left the cinema in the past. This young lady, who illustrated the covers of CosmoGirl or Seventeen as an aspiring teenage idol, finally listened to her true passion and focused her attention, time and effort on pursuing it. And it doesn’t seem like he’s missing anything. In addition to the exhibits, some of his pieces have been sold at auction, ranging in price from $15,000 to $80,000, according to the Priceless website.
