So far, they are the only left-wing parties seeking the highest office in the country after the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) refused To them with the Movement for Peoples’ Liberation.
Accompanied by supporters and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Rigoberta Menchú, the candidates arrived at the headquarters of the TSE Citizens’ Registry, where they received the credentials to vote in the June 25 elections.
Pop and Enríquez were proclaimed in the National Assembly on January 29 and with the starting gun this Sunday have the opportunity to start the election campaign tomorrow.
In statements to the press, the presidential candidate assured that today they have the opportunity to make a proposal to the country to initiate profound and real changes.
Pop is currently a member of the Central American Parliament (2021-2024) and before that was a member of Congress for the terms 2012-2016 and 2016-2020.
For her part, Enríquez is a psychologist from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala and has a Master of Science in Natural Resources and Rural Development.
Also replacing Winaq/URNG-Maiz y Semilla will be former Tax Administration Superintendent Juan Francisco Solórzano, representing the municipality of Guatemala.
This March 26 is the final day to deliver paperwork and ensure registration for those seeking the more than four thousand contentious public offices.
