Legal Counsel and friend talk about the Cain Velasquez case

Legal analyst Dean Johnson and actor/friend Kung Le talk about the events leading up to Cain Velasquez’s upcoming trial.

Professional wrestler and former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was arrested last week for participating in a high-speed chase that resulted in the death of one man.

Velasquez was reportedly on the hunt for Harry Eugene Goulart, a man who allegedly molested his underage relative. And although Goulart was in the car when she was shot at, a 63-year-old man was shot.

The UFC veteran faces a long list of charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at a car and more. If his guilt is proven, he faces 20 years to life in prison.

On Monday, Velasquez was denied bail due to the “reckless” nature of his alleged actions, according to Judge Shelina Brown.

Cain Velasquez has a lot of supporters, but will that be enough to ease the severity of the case?

As for the details of the set, many people have spoken out openly in favor of Velasquez’s actions. For example, Ronda Rousey says that she would probably do much worse if she were in such a situation.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington also spoke out in favor of Velasquez.

Recently, Vietnamese actor, former martial artist and friend of Cain Velasquez, Kung Le, shared his thoughts on the situation.

“He just had a moment of, you know, anger,” he said. – I can’t do it for him. What he did, I know. “Two mistakes don’t make right?” But how are we parents supposed to protect our children when they keep releasing these criminals?” (h/t Bay Area NBC)

Le also mentioned that if he were in Cain’s place, he would do the same.

It goes without saying that many people will do everything they can to protect a loved one. However, the legal side of the case is not as important as those listed above.

The main theme brought up by the lawyers is that Velasquez has decided to take the law into his own hands. There is sympathy in their words, but the position is firm.

Legal analyst Dean Johnson shares the opinion of District Attorney Jeff Rosa.

“Some of them will say that the alleged victim may have deserved what Velasquez allegedly got him, and that would make it very difficult for the jury to choose,” Johnson told NBC Bay Area.
