NEW YORK Z… Wade: Even the name is the subject of a lawsuit between the parents. The 15-year-old transgender daughter of former basketball champion Dwyane Wade was born male, came out in 2020 and is now a model, doing fashion shows and has 600,000 followers on Instagram. She appeared on the cover of Self magazine with her father’s now-wife, actress Gabrielle Union. But mother Siohvaughn Funches-Wade accuses her ex-husband of pushing for her daughter’s medical transition and is suing him to prevent the pre-18 election from changing his name and gender to take advantage of his financial opportunities.”

Transgender stars like TikToker Dylan Mulvaney can make hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dwyane Wade would negotiate with Disney on behalf of his daughter. There are other famous transgender offspring of celebrities – Chaz Bono (parents are Sonny Bono and Cher) or Benjamin Beatty (son of Warren and Annette Bening), but it appears to be the first time a Hollywood couple has gone to court over it goes. It’s not “Roe v. Wade” (abortion verdict), but the case “Funches-Wade v. Wade,” who is set to appear in court on December 12, could have dire consequences, writes David Kaufman in online magazine Airmail. “More than pronouns, library trans books, or unisex toilets, the issue of gender reassignment among youth has become a deep rift, but it’s also being discussed within the trans movement.” Z: from the sign of Zorro to the symbol of the culture clashes between right and left in America.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican nominee for the White House, has planted a banner banning surgery and hormone therapy for transgender minors. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has directed the Family Department to open child abuse investigations into parents who allow their children access to these interventions. The Biden administration has resisted attempts to limit gender-affirming treatment for minors, which includes counseling, although it appears to avoid discussion of surgery in particular.

Advocates say these interventions need to be accessible to youth because they literally view them as a matter of life and death to avoid social stigma, depression and suicide. According to the Trevor Project report, nearly half of transgender youth have had thoughts of suicide in the past year. Those opposed say that before the age of 18 one is too young to make irreversible and potentially risky decisions, arguing that social networks encourage young people to convince themselves that they are trans.
