The prequel to the highly anticipated sequel debuted domestically in February 2018 at $202 million and grossed $1.34 billion at the global box office.

In the original, late actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020, played the title role of Black Panther amid a cast that also included Michael B. Jordan and Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o.

Numerous cast members from the first film expressed interest in returning for a sequel, although plans became complicated when Boseman tragically died of colon cancer.

It was later confirmed that plans for a sequel were moving forward and the late actor’s role would not be recast.

Filming on the project began last June and continued until the crew finished last March.

The latest Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer confirmed a new Black Panther following the death of King T’Challa and debuted a new hero.

The two-minute, action-packed clip was released by Marvel last month as it showed that someone would take over the mantle after Boseman’s character died, in addition to showing Ironheart for the first time.

The end of the trailer featured a woman in a form fitting suit similar to T’Challa’s, presumably his sister Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.

Another key moment was the first glimpse of Ironheart in an all-steel suit as she flies through the air much like Iron Man.
