Rio Leo Lins left the SBT contract team after being embroiled in a major controversy. The comedian made a joke about a kid with hydrocephalus during a standup, citing the telethon. The statement was heavily criticized by netizens. The resignation was confirmed per day on Tuesday morning at the station’s press office. “He is no longer part of the SBT cast,” he said in a statement.

In standup, Léo spoke from a video of a boy in the countryside of Ceará with hydrocephalus. He implied that the only place in town where there would be water was at the child’s head. The comedian also said the little one’s family would enjoy it too.

The statement caused outrage among Internet users. “Leo Lins’ ‘joke’ about a boy with hydrocephalus and the laughter of the audience just shows how clueless and empathetic our society is these days a comedian or just inhumane, clueless?! What do you think? This @LeoLins deserves to be called what?” asked another.

The AACD (Association for Assistance to Children with Disabilities) also commented on the matter, dismissing Léo’s position through a post on Twitter. “The AACD has vehemently denied Leo Lins’ ‘joke’ in a video recently posted to the comedian’s social media. Children with different kinds of problems and shows disrespect for the residents of Ceará,” read an excerpt from the statement. They also reiterated that the comedian’s attitude is considered a crime and carries a prison sentence of one to three years and a fine can lead.
