Letícia Colin says she feels more confident after being the villain in ‘Todas as flores’: ‘I had fun with the sensual side’

In fiction, she is not a flower to smell. In real life he deserved all the flowers for the dramaturgy show he gave. Letícia Colin had a hard time saying goodbye to Vanessa late last year when the recording of “Todas as flores” ended, and the feeling is now being repeated. Starting next month, what are you going to do every Wednesday if you don’t see five new episodes of João Emanuel Carneiro’s series that come out weekly on Globoplay? “Aaai, it will be very sad! (laughs),” says the 33yearold artist, who has fulfilled her dream of playing her first soap opera villain.

— I’ve been trying to say goodbye to Vanessa since the beginning of the year. It was all very intense, it’s a character that has a great sense of power. An illusion, but it made me too strong to do it. Giving up means accepting the loss of a superpower describes Letícia, who doesn’t just turn the key when she finishes a project: “Nowadays I invest more and more in getting rid of work, in cooling down, going back, landing. But things take time because there are so many invisible layers, it’s not just about putting the costume on and being there.

The artist did an exclusive shoot for Canal Extra

Perhaps this is the secret of this chameleonlike actress, capable of engaging audiences as a biased villain, a beloved empress of Brazil, or a doctor waging a personal battle against drugs. Incidentally, Letícia sees the roles in the soap opera “Novo Mundo” (2017) and in the series “Where is my heart” (2021) as turning points in her now 25year career:

— Amanda (crack addict) was very important in several ways. Even for being a character who managed to stimulate and drive discussion about chemical addiction. It required me to have a strong physique as an actress, and the research changed my life. The film was seen internationally, which earned me an Emmy nomination. And with the Leopoldina (from the six o’clock soap opera) many people got to know my work.

The prostitute Rosa from Um Lugar ao Sol (2021), Globo’s prime time plot, was the one who brought Letícia to celebrity status. The name of a (single) flower made it known to a wide public. But it was only in “All the Flowers” that the actress experienced a new popularity.

“It was the most visited work I’ve ever done. I’m walking down the street and there’s no way I won’t be recognized she reports.

Among the numerous compliments she receives from fans on social networks and also from colleagues who flatter her, there is a special one.

— Anitta writes me on Instagram. Like this?! he wonders: She compliments him, talks about the soap opera, sends a photo of him watching… It’s cool, isn’t it? I saw the day she went to the MET Gala (in the US) and watched the scenes before the ball started (laughs). It’s fun and exciting.

Letícia gets everything on the street. From the love of the charismatic character to the hatred of so much evil and prejudice to the unusual:

— People talk about my costars Caio Castro and Humberto Carrão: “Oh, how I envy you for playing with them, for staying with them” (laughs).

In the last part of the plot, the actress prefers not to tell Vanessa’s result, but that’s enough:

“I don’t think she’s getting what she deserves.” Our novel is very realistic. It’s not because someone ends up getting hurt because they’re bad. And unfortunately that’s the way the world is.

Leticia from the past

Devoted to work, Capricorn parents drool over their daughter’s material. The mother, Analdina Colin, collects everything in a folder and the father, José Hélio Colin, even demands that it be framed and hung on the wall at home:

— My mother is very reasonable, it is difficult to praise a scene too much. He always recognized my talent, my work and my achievement, but he didn’t throw confetti around for nothing. And it’s something I’ve always appreciated because I know that when she speaks, she means business. My father is more of an owl now.

As the daughter of physical education teachers, she did not immediately decide to become an actress. She considered becoming a lawyer, journalist, and dancer (she even went to college in the last two fields, but dropped out and didn’t graduate). It was embraced by the art of acting.

“I work a lot, which is good, but it becomes difficult to share. I started acting at the age of 8, I liked the environment but I didn’t think this space would open up for me. Of course I’ve worked hard, but there’s more of a random factor in everything in life and in this career. I have friends who are very talented and didn’t have the privilege and opportunities that I did. I don’t know if it’s fate, mission, luck… I’m very grateful to have grown up surrounded by culture, respect for differences celebrates the artist who left Santo André, São Paulo for Rio de Janeiro at the age of 12 years.

great mother Leticia

Outside of fiction, the actress is the complete opposite of Vanessa, even as a mother. Letícia is a loving mother to threeyearold Uri, whom she describes as “everything” in her life. The little one is the result of her relationship with her husband Michel Melamed, 47.

— We spent the first two Uri years in isolation and without social interaction during the pandemic. A lot of people in my family met him when he was older, when he was only 2, 3 years old — says she, who today has a lovefilled support network consisting of the actress’ mother, nanny and couple friends , like her son’s godparents, Eduardo Sterblitch and Louise D’Tuani (Caetano’s parents, whose godparents are Letícia and Michel as well).

For the artist, Uri is half her and half her father on the outside. But the personality is already her own, as can be seen in the very cute videos with the little one that the actress shares on her social networks:

— He is very humorous, he likes to joke with words to surprise.

Letícia and Michel wanted to have a child and for the time being they have no plans to enlarge the family but they didn’t think that Uri would come so soon. In the house, the two attach great importance to free education for the boy, far removed from prejudice and social constraints. The mother illustrates:

— We created him believing that he was there to build a better world. For example, when we read books from our time, I adapt. One day we were looking at a Turma da Mônica comic that was always reinventing itself and it was about the character Louco. I didn’t think it was cool to keep calling him that, we need to deconstruct this vision of mental health. So I told us to come up with a name for it and we did. Another example: There is a book that only talks about father and mother, but then I say that there are other families that can be started. He always expanded his view of a more contemporary world.

In the soap opera, Letícia plays with a baby, Vanessa’s son in the storyline. Nicolau, the poor thing, is very abused by the dog. Offcamera, the actress fills the child with kisses:

— The baby is the most beautiful thing, the mother is also very cool. It’s madness to play a character who says and practices absurdities. But over time I’ve learned to deal with it in a healthier way so as not to feel bad. It’s important to have this character doing everything wrong so we can see how awful it is. It’s kind of like an actor’s job: spreading this horrific hate speech that more and more people are freely voicing. This has been very helpful over the past four years due to our mismanagement. It’s cool to see what happens to a person who only thinks about themselves, about power, about deceit, about money…

Leticia in love

Uri is the result of a love that has lasted for seven years. Letícia and Michel met on the actor show “Bipolar Show” broadcast on Canal Brasil:

— Our development is beautiful, I am very proud.

One of the secrets they have shared for almost a decade is the couples therapy that the two do from time to time:

— We heard from someone close to us and thought, “Why not us?” The person was very positive about the impact of therapy on marriage, so we decided to do it. I think it’s basic, I’m showing off too much. You listen better to things, to a demand, to a signal that the other is giving you. And it also helps individually. We talk about what you idealize, what you lived, what you designed …

For an actress who always learns from her roles, this time was no different. Even if the learning comes from a villain.

“A good thing can be used for evil, like Vanessa does. She’s very confident, and that’s a good thing. This is a very welcome trait, because when you’re doing well, you’re empowering others. As I passed her, I realized that it was. I had to have faith in the scene, so I tried many times! And it’s nice to be like that in life he says.

In addition, Letícia’s character is sensual and the plot uses sex as a means to get what she wants.

— I had a lot of fun with this site, there was even something in their costumes that wanted to be sensual. In the rehearsal room we worked on the subject of eroticism and sensuality, how that is a power strategy. And Vanessa is very free, apparently a woman who enjoys relationships and aspires to selffulfilment describes the actress: “I think I’m on the way to freedom.” I still need to know things, open up , deconstruct. I am also the result of an upbringing that taught me to be afraid of my body, we learned to defend ourselves. I still have those marks, but I’ve tried to go further. After I turned 30, the situation began to improve significantly. I think reaching 40 will be good in that sense too.

However, when it comes to the topic of freedom and joy in relationships, the actress does not refer to sexual orientation:

“I’ve never been asked that before, but I believe I’m female, cis, straight. And great for any other possibilities that are even more interesting than mine (laughs). I think everyone has to be what they want, what they can be, what they think makes sense for them. That’s what I want to teach my son.

Leticia in peace

If there’s one thing she’s passionate about, it’s mental health. The actress has been in therapy since she was 18 and has gone through some bouts of depression in her life.

— I have always liked to take care of my spirit, I have even sought this support in religion. I converted to Buddhism but nowadays I like many things like Candomblé, Spiritism, I like to hear people’s stories about places I’ve never been. Our minds make us connect, so it has to be taken care of he argues.

And the lessons learned over the years are visible.

“Over time, I’ve made sure not to be so hard on myself because I’ve always been. I think it has to do with working a lot from a young age, I’m a Capricorn… The biggest burden is on myself because I’m a very demanding viewer. My mother’s daughter, right? I like to see a scene that I believe in, that touches me, that’s unconventional,” he says.

Leticia from the future

After donating to Hurricane Vanessa, Letícia took a welldeserved rest. Nevertheless, he is already planning future work:

— My next step would be to go back to the theatre, I miss it and I think I haven’t done it in five years. There was a pandemic, I had a son… Michel and I want to do a play together, a monologue with his direction and dramaturgy, which he will write.

One of the voices (the other is Sophie Charlotte) in the opening song of João Emanuel Carneiro’s soap opera doesn’t rule out a career in music:

— I have a desire to one day do a musical work with original songs, to do a show. But it’s something that requires a lot of learning, I’m not going to do it anyway. There must be research and investment at all times.

The next assignment after Vanessa isn’t there yet, but Letícia already knows that she wants to do something completely different from the villain because she loves a challenge. The soap opera was so successful that it will also be broadcast on TV Globo in the second half of the year.

— Of course, we do not assume any guarantee, success cannot be ordered. We also depend on others. It’s a collective victory, I know that. And I am very grateful to be part of people’s lives says the actress.

After the first villain, Uri’s mother lists another dream that would be incredible for the little one:

— There aren’t many productions of this type in Brazil, but I’ve always wanted to do a superheroine. It would be really cool!

Just between us: she’s already a heroine!

Letícia and the good energy of flowers

“When I travel, I like to pay attention to the local flowers to see the peculiarities there. I like taking pictures with flowers to win them… Here at home there are many plants, from bamboo to São Jorge’s sword. I have many vases, also large, tall ones. I’ve learned to take care, I have an app that helps to understand what the plants are feeling, I’ve already saved a few, with the help of Rosa, who works here at home and has a very good touch. I learned how to plant, I understand how to apply blankets, clay and soil, I like this process,” says the actress.
