The charges do not relate to the assassination of President Moïse, who was killed in January 2021. They refer to another alleged conspiracy.

The investigation by the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Team (EISN) was launched following a report from the Lévis City Police Department which was targeting one Gérald Nicolas, 51. According to police, the Lévis resident planned to lead an armed revolution in Haiti to eventually seize power in the country long plagued by political instability.

Mr. Nicolas will appear at the Quebec Courthouse on December 1. “It is alleged that the latter took concrete action, notably through trips to Haiti, to facilitate the organization of a group whose intent was to participate in a coup against established authority,” the RCMP confirmed in a statement.

The defendant faces three charges including leaving Canada to facilitate terrorist activity, facilitating terrorist activity and providing property for terrorist use.
