LG recently introduced a new generation of connected TVs consisting of various models based on QNED and QNED Mini LED technology. The Korean manufacturer took the opportunity to announce a new program to make its hardware more durable: owners of certain newer models can receive four major updates to webOS, the embedded system in LG televisions.

This offering, called WebOS Re:New, currently affects the LG QNED Mini LED 8K models (QNED99 and QNED95 series) launched in 2022, as well as other recently announced models. Users should receive a notification soon with more information. This monitoring will be extended to other models in the QNED television range “in the future” without further details. OLED models are not mentioned in the press release.
This is good news, as tracking updates for connected TV systems can sometimes be complicated. Manufacturers need to stay up to date to ensure the interoperability of their TVs with their customers' various connected devices. These major updates to WebOS will also provide additional functionality in addition to various refinements on the user interface side.
