Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton enacted legislation aimed at marginalizing Florida’s LGBTQIA+ community just days before the Miami Grand Prix.
The British athlete has never shied away from speaking out publicly on sensitive issues. On Friday, he confirmed he would be wearing a rainbow flag helmet and compared the “Sun State” to Saudi Arabia.

“There’s nothing good about that,” Hamilton said, commenting on USA Today about the legislation imposed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Here I offer my support to the people in the community. I hope they don’t give up and keep fighting.”
“I will have a rainbow on my helmet. It’s no different than when we were in Saudi Arabia.”
DeSantis and the Republican Party have come under fire for their so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law, an issue the seven-time F1 champion has been following closely.
“I’ve heard of some decisions made by the government here and I can only disagree with them. I will not stop supporting the LGBTQ community.”
“I want the community to know that I stand behind it.”
