Liberal Democrats release list of climate and immigration decrees

The AOC and far-left Democrats are compiling a list of climate and immigration executive orders that Biden must pass WITHOUT consideration by Congress.

  • Progressive Democrats are calling on President Joe Biden to take executive action on climate change, student debt relief and wage increases.
  • The bell sounded as Biden’s agenda stalled in the Senate
  • Democrats concerned about midterm elections in November
  • Progressives argue that their demands “will bring immediate relief to working people and their families.”

Progressive Democrats are calling on President Joe Biden to take executive action to raise wages, fight climate change, cancel student debt and lower healthcare costs.

The progressive group, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal and made up of high-ranking liberals such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, and Senator Bernie Sanders, laid out their lists of demands that they say will “provide immediate relief to working people.” and their families.” .’

The issues on which they call for action stalled in the Senate after moderate Senator Joe Manchin said he could not vote for Biden’s “Restore Better” welfare package, effectively killing the measure.

Biden called on Congress to pass legislation to codify the clauses into law. By executive action, another president can override what he orders, just as Biden reserved several of Donald Trump’s orders. Executive orders can also be set aside by the court.

But the 98-member progressive assembly has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of a legislative process and is now demanding action.

“We are not talking about abandoning the legislative path. It is about realizing the promise of democratic governance, and quickly using all available tools to make it happen,” they wrote in their agenda released Thursday.

Their request comes amid Democrats’ fears that their party will lose control of the House and Senate in November’s midterm elections as voters balk at high food and gas prices fueled by record inflation.

“We need to make sure we address the rising cost of housing, childcare, gas prices and all of the things that we are seeing right now, and pay attention to it for people who are on the fringes of life.” Jayapal told reporters. “Let’s get people relief quickly. And yes, everything we do before November helps us.”

A White House official told they were contacting lawmakers about concerns, while Jayapal said she expected to speak directly to President Biden about their concerns.

Progressive Democrats, including Congressmen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (left) and Pramila Jayapal (right), are calling on President Joe Biden to take executive action on climate change, student debt relief and wage increases.

Progressives listed eight demands, including:

  • Reduced healthcare costs, including the cost of prescription drugs;
  • Raise wages by expanding the threshold for overtime pay;
  • Combat climate change by using the Defense Production Act to increase renewable energy production;
  • Cancel federal student loan debt;
  • Promote the rights of immigrants by abolishing the Mexico Residency Policy (MPP) and Section 42 expulsion policy;
  • Invest in jobs;
  • Fulfill the promise of equal justice under the law;
  • tax fairness

Progressives argue that the agenda will allow Democrats to fulfill “commitments that Democrats have made for decades, as well as commitments related to the Biden agenda.”

Democrats have privately expressed concern about the president’s low approval rating and voter anger.

Democrats were also frustrated that the president was focusing on foreign affairs rather than domestic ones, such as the economy and the coronavirus pandemic.

The White House countered that the president was engaged. He stepped up his efforts to help the midterms by holding the first personal fundraiser of his presidency on Monday, raising $3 million for the party.

Monday’s poll showed a majority of Americans say the country is on the right track.

When asked if the US is headed in the right direction or gone astray, 32% said the direction is right and 68% said the wrong direction in the Morning Consult survey.

Democrats have expressed their concern about the fall in voters in other ways: 31 House Democrats are not running for re-election this year, the highest number since 1992.
