African, Latin American and Asian dignitaries reiterated their solidarity with the largest of the Antilles and also expressed their gratitude for the support and cooperation that the island offered despite the difficulties caused by the siege by Washington.
Being in Havana, where we have been welcomed with hospitality, we have the great opportunity to defend with one voice the need to immediately end the economic blockade, since it is unjust and inhumane, explained the President of Angola, João Lourenço.
This coercive policy, he asserted, violates the principles of trade and international cooperation as well as the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination.
Mongolia’s President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa also said that the G77 and China must work to lift the blockade and thus promote the island’s development and prosperity.
Regarding the unilateral measures imposed by Washington, the ruler of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, expressed that his country, like Venezuela and Cuba, will resist the attacks of imperial power with the stoicism and creativity of its people.
Argentine President Alberto Fernández also specifically referred to the example of resistance of the Caribbean island, which recognized the scientific and technological development of the Cubans despite the ongoing US blockade.
Mexico’s Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena did the same, strongly condemning the unilateral siege and demanding that the northern government remove Cuba from its unilateral list of suspected sponsors of terrorism.
On the contrary, he said, the Caribbean country meets international standards against money laundering and drug trafficking.
He also thanked the support of the island, which is collaborating with more than 800 medical specialists to modernize Mexico’s health plan, as well as for the provision of the Abdala vaccine against COVID-19.
For her part, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, praised Cuba’s example.
In his opinion, it is one of the beacons of the Global South due to science and technology, despite the blockade and terrorism suffered by successive US administrations for more than 60 years.
The G77 and China summit began today in this capital and will culminate tomorrow with the adoption of a final declaration.
The meeting will be attended by more than a hundred delegations from the bloc’s member countries and representatives of international organizations who will discuss political and economic issues. (Cadenagramonte)
